ebooks for everyone
I'm so excited to report that the Hopewell Public School Foundation, http://www.hopewell.k12.va.us/education/school/school.php?sectiondetailid=4757&, has approved a $1,000 grant for the Patrick Copeland Library!! This means that we will get the funds to purchase eBooks for next year. Students will be able to "check out" books online to read on personal devices, including computers, iPhones and android phones and any other device that allows internet access!! We intend to have these available for student check out at the beginning of the next school year, September 2013!!
Spring Book Fair
Thank you so very much to all of the people who made our spring book fair a success. Parent and community volunteers, family members, teachers, students and other staff deserve much praise! Students "can't wait" until our book fair returns in October!
Book Fair Returns.
Our second book fair of the school year begins on March 14th. This is an early release day for students so that parents can come in for afternoon conferences. Hopefully, many students and families will be able to browse the book fair! The last day of book fair for this school year will be March 21st. This is the Science Fair/Minds in Motion night. :)
Battle of the Books
Our Battle of the Books Club has 15 book loving students who are reading books, attending weekly meetings and writing questions about the books they have read to help prepare for a competition. We will get to compete with 4th and 5th grade students from DuPont Elementary to see who can correctly answer the most questions about our 20 books. We are having a great time and much lively conversation!
Library Helpers
Fourth and fifth grade students are eligible to become library helpers. To be considered for this volunteer job, a student must be recommended by a teacher and also have permission from a parent or guardian. Some jobs library helpers perform are to assist with book returns, organizing and shelving of materials, maintenance of materials, and to help other patrons with locating materials of need and interest.
